Victorian Jewelry 1837 - 1901
The Victorian Era named for Queen Victoria, brought the feminine into the forefront. The three distinct styles are: the Romantic, where the symbols of a secret lover's language decorate all jewelry; the Mourning, when sadness was shown with black jet, pearls and onyx; the Late when we saw a return to natural motifs, luminous gemstones and celestial designs. The Etruscan and Egyptian Revivals of this era are a result of the Queen's excavation of tombs in both Italy and Egypt.
