We were enamored by this very well-made Victorian spider brooch. Although it is paste, when you examine the stones you can see that they are hand cut and exhibit the same profiles as antique diamonds with high tables. Each stone is held in place by prongs. Down the center of the spider’s back, there is a line of blue paste stones with square table cuts, bezel set into place. The spider’s eyes consist of two little red paste stones with antenna between them, giving the spider lots of personality, and the spider’s arched legs makes it feel like the spider is ready to meander and crawl around. The brooch is fairly large in size and so has good presence. We love insect jewelry, so we celebrate the paste stones, we thought this spider offered enough charm to be part of the Kirsten’s Corner collection.
The brooch measures 1 1/8” x 2”. It weighs 8.29 grams.
