This Victorian brooch features a crescent moon elegantly bisecting three cylindrical rods, creating a nice balance and substance to the piece. The moon is encrusted with seed pearls that are bead set and graduate in size. The three bars are wrapped on the ends, topped with ball finials that give a nice finish to the piece. The brooch comes in its original box from W.B. Pidduck & Son, making this a very giftable item.
W.B. Pidduck and Son was a goldsmith and diamond merchant from the early Victorian era, founded in 1841. It is still in business today.
The brooch measures 1 7/8” x 9/16” and weighs 3.6 grams. It contains 11 natural antique seed pearls that range in size from 2 mm - 0.75 mm. It is marked as 15k gold, and has a jump ring on the back that allows it to hang from a chain.
We are proponents for bringing back the brooch! These type of bar pins can really grace a blazer or jean jacket, and should not be overlooked as old fashioned.
