Vintage Tiffany & Co. by Schlumberger 18K Gold Enamel Ring

$3,500.00
One of Tiffany & Co.’s top designers, Jean Michel Schlumberger was a French designer renown for his use of colorful enamel and sculptural pieces. This 18k gold band is a rare Schlumberger design, reminiscent of belt loops. The band has a beautiful royal blue enamel, translucent enough to reveal the pretty visual texture of the gold beneath it. Seven evenly spaced gold loops are raised above the band. When viewed from straight on, the loops are rhythmic and intriguing; when viewed from the side, the loops extend and create a delicate use of negative space. The overall design is very sculptural—almost futuristic—with an unusual je ne sais quoi that we love. Circa 1960’s.

Schlumberger began collaborating with Tiffany & Co. in 1956 and designed many of their most iconic pieces. He often traveled to Bali, India, Thailand, and the Caribbean islands in search of the inspiration that is seen in his surreal and fiery designs. His most famous Tiffany & Co. pieces include the Bird on a Rock brooch, the Cooper Bracelet, and the 16 Stone Diamond Ring, and his jewelry was worn by Audrey Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor, Jackie Kennedy, Greta Garbo, and the Duchess of Windsor. He was one of only four Tiffany & Co. designers allowed to sign their pieces, along with Paloma Picasso, Elsa Peretti, and Frank Gehry.

The band is 3/16” wide (1/4” wide at the points of the loops). It weighs 4.9 grams. Marked Schlumberger, Tiffany & Co., and 750.

Size 7. Due to the enamel, the ring cannot be resized.
