This is a lovely and highly ornate from that dates to the turn of the century, or Art Nouveau era. It has some fantastic designs that are great examples of the floral and angular patterns that were so in vogue at the time. The brooch measures 2-1/2 by 1-1/2 inches; the faceted orange glass gem at center measures 5/8 by 3/8 of an inch. The brooch is made of brass, and the vibrant orange gemstone at the center is glass making this piece is a desirable and affordable 19th Century item for a jewelry collection. 
The pin functions perfectly and secures on safely. Perfect to wear with a scarf, or to decorate a simple dress.
