Vintage 18K Gold Lamassu Men’s Signet Ring

$3,500.00
This 18k gold signet ring depicts the Lamassu, an Assyrian deity that dates back to around 960 - 935 B.C. The Lamassu has the body of a bull or lion, the head of a human, and the wings of a bird. It was known to be a powerful, protective entity, and images of the Lamassu were often placed in courtyards and near entrances to households, or buried under doors to protect a threshold. Large statues of the Lamassu were even used to guard the entrances of Mesopotamian cities.

A bold image, the Lamassu on this signet ring can be seen standing with his wings spread behind him. The rings itself has a simple, angular profile that emphasizes the subject matter. This piece makes powerful protective talisman, but also a great conversation starter. Most people are familiar with many of the Egyptian gods and goddesses, but the lesser-known Lamassu is intriguing because it is enigmatic and obscure.

The face of the ring measures 5/8” x 9/16”. The band is 1/2” at its widest point and 1/4” at its narrowest. It weighs 16.24 grams. The ring is marked 750 for 18k gold.

Ring size 12.5 and can be sized up or down about two sizes. While this a unisex piece, the larger size makes it ideal for a man.
