This is a lovely matched pair of Hanau oval silver boxes depicting gentlemen. A pair that have stayed together for so long is a rare find. The silver is 800 and they each have a repousse image of a gentleman on the top of the box with scenery that cascades around the base.
Both hinges are in excellent condition and the lids fit well. One is a little heavier, weigh 2.5 troy oz; the other is 2.25 troy oz. If you look closely at the faces one of them is more worn in the hairline. The one with more wear has the complete set of marks (the marks are more worn on the other).
Each of these boxes measures 2 3/4" x 1 7/8" x 1 1/8". The makers marks for these boxes are unidentified to date. These marks, according to 925-1000 (the online encyclopedia of silver mark), are unattributed Pseudo Marks on Hanau Style Silver.
