Victorian 14K Gold Sapphire and Pearl Crescent Moon Pendant

$775.00

This 14k gold Victorian crescent moon pendant contains alternating sapphires and pearls that graduate in size along the pendant’s curve. Circa the 1880’s,  piece was originally a brooch, but was converted into a pendant for contemporary use. The sapphires are a beautiful blue that are a lovely complement to the lustrous pearls. We’ve added a larger jump ring to accommodate a thicker chain. Celestial jewelry was a popular motif in the Victorian era, as the public’s fascination with astronomy grew. Comets, stars, and crescent moons were often seen in jewelry and had rich symbolism and sentimentality.

The pendant contains 9 natural pearls and 8 natural sapphires. The pearls range in size from 1.6 mm - 2.5 mm. The sapphire range in size from 1.5 mm - 2.75 mm. The pendant is 2” long, plus an additional 7.3 x 8.3 mm bail. It weighs 2.25 grams.
