Sterling Silver Hermes Winged Foot Bracelet

$250.00

In this Hermes Winged Foot bracelet, repeating sterling silver charms are strung together to create a chain. The winged foot seen in these charms is the symbol of the New York Athletic Club, founded in 1863, and the chain used in this piece is circa 1910. The chain has a neat visual effect: the shape of the winged foot is asymmetrical but reflective, and when used as a repeating motif, zigzags like ocean waves.

The winged foot is symbolic of Hermes, the Greek god of sports. Hermes’ sandals, known as Talaria, are ancient symbols for messengers, and the flying feet represent flight and freedom, reminding us of the possibilities of the imagination. Hermes was also the god of poetry and trickery since he was known as a witty and quick thinker, always on his feet. There are many interpretations to be found, as this symbol has a long history all over the world.

The bracelet is 7.5” inches long and weighs 9.13 grams. Each charm is 3/4” long and approximately 1/4” wide. It features a secure spring ring clasp and nine sterling silver winged foot charms.

A perfect gift for an athlete!
