At Kirsten’s Corner, we love vintage coral. This piece came from a strand of vintage coral we acquired; we set aside some of the more interesting shapes because we knew we wanted to create a good luck pendant. This soft salmon-colored coral has an organic wavy and elongated shape and is beautifully preserved. We added a 14k gold cap so that it could hang from a chain. The cap has a curved arc to it that allows you to see a nice amount of the coral. It is connected to the cap by a hole drilled in the top of the coral, which holds it in place. 

In the Georgian and Victorian eras, coral was often used in baby rattles or as pacifiers, because the soft, smooth texture of the coral made it comfortable for a baby to use while teething. We love the strange and unique antique pieces left behind in this form. 

The pendant measures 2 1/4” from top to bottom; the coral piece measures 1 3/4” x approximately 1/4”. The pendant weighs 5.8 grams. It is unmarked but acid tests as 14k gold. 

The pendant looks best on a longer chain; we recommend wearing it on a 22 - 24” chain.
