Retro Platinum World War II V for Victory Ruby Pendant Charm

$2,000.00
This platinum charm or pendant is in the shape of a patriotic V and encrusted with beautiful caliber cut rubies. During World War 2, the letter V for Victory was worn by The Allies, often as sweetheart jewelry or to show love and support for friends or family members in the service. The fact that this pendant is rendered in platinum makes it special and highly sought after, as metal was rationed during World War II. Platinum was reserved for military use and banned in the U.S. in non-essential goods like jewelry, making this a rare piece. The ten natural caliber cut rubies are held in a narrow platinum V; each ruby is cut specifically for the setting and fit together in the recesses of the frame. There are three tiny dots on the back of the pendant that suggest this piece was most likely originally a pin, and was at some point converted into a charm.

The V measures 3/8” x 5/8”, plus a 4.9 mm jump ring bail. It weighs 0.70 grams. Unmarked. The pendant acid tests as platinum and the bail acid tests as 14k white gold.

Circa the 1940’s.
