The best way to describe these vintage 9k gold geometric earrings is to call them geodesic domes. Geodesic domes are spherical structures built from triangles that distribute weight evenly—a feat of architecture that allows a structure to be lightweight yet exceptionally strong. The earrings are hollow, but the geodesic dome structure allows them to maintain a nice volume, as is the nature of the dome. The series of triangles create beautiful reflective facets, and we love that the earrings conjure up cultural references like disco balls and the architectural designs of Buckminster Fuller.
The earrings measure 1/2” x 1/2” and, combined, weigh 3.6 grams. They are marked on the earring wire as 375 for 9k gold, along with a European mark of a flying bird, and two unidentifiable hallmarks. The earring backs are new 14k gold backs; we purchased earring backs that were large enough in size to hold the earrings firmly in place. The earring backs are marked as 14k.
