Rare 14K Gold Vintage Satyr Pan Pendant

A rare vintage Pan head pendant made of two different kinds of 14 karat gold with diamond gemstones. The figure of Pan is connected to pleasure, and as the god of wild nature,  in ancient Greek mythology he is also the symbol of fertility. Pan represents the season of Spring and hedonism. He is connected to music and life, and ironically is the only god that that mortal. He died with the advent of theology, and as such represents an important figure in neo-paganism. His image is brought up in literature often, and he is quite a powerful character. HIs portrait here is made exquisitely, hand carved and textured to create individual features that are very expressive. He has bright golden hair around his face, and his skin takes on a greener gold color. Two 2mm, good color, bright and lively diamonds stand out as his eyes. the bale at the top of his head has been hand-made, and you can see that both the front and the back of Pan's face has been highly rendered by a skillful artist. The back of Pan's face looks like a leaf, which again connects Pan to nature. This pendant stands out; it is very original and makes a perfect unisex item. Ready to hang on a chain of your choice. The pendant measures 1-1/4 inches x 3/4 inches. Weighs 8.6 grams. In great condition, circa 1970s.
