R. Wallace & Sons Sterling Silver and Gilt Match Safe

$295.00

This lovely R. Wallace & Sons Match Safe has engraved foliate and scrolled decoration on the front and back. A rambling briar of a rose bush and thorns beautifully texture the surface of the silver, and the thorn vines crisscross to make the border of a shield-shaped cartouche. Within the elongated quatrefoil, the initials F.A.B. are engraved on the front (making this the perfect gift for a “fab” friend), while the cartouche on the back remains empty and could still be personalized. The floral and fine engravings are fairytale-esque and remind us of the Forest of Thorns in Sleeping Beauty.

R. Wallace & Sons was founded by Robert Wallace in 1855 in Prospect, Connecticut. They were manufacturers of fine quality jewelry, flatware, and hollowware.

Circa 1890. The inside rim has R. Wallace’s maker’s mark, “Sterling”, and 868. The interior of the safe has a gilt finish.

Size: 2.1/2” x 1.3/4”. Weight: 35.5 grams.
