This is a gorgeous Victorian hair brooch. Orderly panels of tightly woven blonde human hair sit beneath a beveled window of carved crystal; this is set in an oval onyx, that is framed in a gold tone metal A beautiful piece of Victorian hair jewelry. Hair Jewelry either mourning or for remembrance was popular in the mid 1800's. Photography was not readily available, portraits were expensive; so these treasures were made to so one could carry a small part of your loved one with you. This brooch measures 1 1/4" x 1". It is in excellent condition and the clasp still works perfectly.
