Meiji Style Japanese Cast Iron Sculpture

$550.00
A vintage Meiji style Japanese sculpture made of cast iron in the 1970's. The piece is quite solid and makes a nice decorative centerpiece, or paper weight. It has been hand-painted a deep red color to resemble to lobsters from the Meiji era. The sculpture measures approximately 15 inches wide by 15 inches tall, and has a diagonal measurement of 18 inches. Unlike Meiji sculptures, this lobster is not articulated and is not life-size, but larger, giving this lobster its magnificent presence. Like most Meiji era lobsters, the textures and the delicate tendrils have been rendered realistically, with much detail and precision.
