If an elephant could be a roly-poly, this would be it! This compact, adorable elephant has ruby eyes and an emerald cabochon on top of his head. He is decked out in a saddle blanket, topped off with a Rose Cut diamond. The elephant has a bail attached to his tiny trunk so that he can hang on his side when worn on a chain. He has an adorable presence and is cute from every angle, with comically short legs and a teeny tiny tail. The pendant is gilt, with a beautiful patina that blackens the recesses of the elephant and delineates its lines, making the features of the elephant pop.
The pendant is marked on the bail with a Cyrillic Russian hallmark that can’t be identified. It is also marked with an “88” for the silver content we believe it is a pre-revolutionary Russian piece, dating the piece to 1917 or before.
The Rose Cut diamond measures 4.25 mm. The emerald measures 3.25 mm and the rubies measure 1.5 mm each. The elephant measures 3/4” x 1/2”, plus an additional 5 x 6.5 mm bail. The piece weighs 4.5 grams.
