Georgian 14K Gold Flat Cut Onyx Mourning Pendant

$1,250.00
This impeccably crafted 14k gold mourning pendant dates to the 1820’s and is completely handmade. It features flat cut onyx held in a collet setting, each stone with the tiny bits of pinched metal holding it in place. The 14k gold creates a decorative border with spiky, starlike appendages that are indicative of the Georgian era. The flat cut pieces of onyx are placed in a floral pattern with a swag above it. In the center of the flower is a convex piece of glass with the tiniest lock of woven hair as a cherished memorial. The black onyx is the traditional color of mourning, and pops against the 14k gold to give this piece a striking look. This is a special piece, as mourning jewelry is most often seen in the form of brooches or rings, and is much rarer to see as a pendant. We love that this elegant and elaborate pendant is also a piece of history from over two hundred years ago.

The pendant measures 2 7/8” x 3/4”. It weighs 3.75 grams. It has a 2.5 x 3.5 mm bail and is ready to hang on the chain of your choice. Unmarked; acid test as 14k gold.
