Edwardian French 18K Gold and Platinum Mother of God Pendant

$1,775.00
Circa 1912, this French 18k gold pendant features an image of Saint Mary surrounded by diamonds set in platinum. The image has beautiful definition and detail. Mary appears to be held up by a crescent moon, as she holds a baby Jesus, her gaze turned downward toward the swaddled infant. Sun rays cascade behind her, suggesting her holiness, and three Putti angels float in the clouds nearby. The pendant is outlined by platinum and bead set Rose Cut diamonds detailed by milgrain work. The Rose Cuts add a certain mysterious dark sparkle because of the old cut of the diamonds.

The back of the piece has beautiful open work, lovely enough to be a medallion pendant in and of itself. It is engraved with “From Jack X Mas 1912”—an endearing tribute to its original owner, over a century ago.

The pendant contains 52 natural antique Rose Cut diamonds. In total, they weigh approximately 0.5 of a carat.

The piece measures 15/16” across and weighs 5.79 grams. We’ve added a 14k gold bail that is 5.5 x 8 mm. The pendant is marked with a French hallmark and acid tests as 18k gold and platinum. The bail is marked as 14k.
