Edwardian 18k Gold Equestrian Jockey and Horse Enameled Brooch

$3,200.00
What we love most about this Edwardian 18k gold brooch is its attention to detail. The horse is rendered anatomically correct in an easy stride, as if entering the gates for a race. The horse is a beautiful 18k rich gold with cross-hatching that follows the musculature of the horse, delineating its form by reiterating its shape and making it even more lifelike. In the tail, you can see the individual strands of hair, and the horse is equipped with an English saddle, as well as bridle and reigns. Atop the horse sits a jockey, enameled in red, blue, white, and flesh tones. The rendering of the jockey is so tight that you can even see the details of his tiny face.

The brooch comes in an H.M. The Queen Goldsmiths & Crown Jewelers Garrard & CL box. We are assuming it is the original box, but the brooch is not hallmarked, so we can’t say for sure.

The brooch measures 1 1/4” x 1”. The horse and jockey are approximately 3/16” deep, while the entire brooch including the pin is 5/16” deep. The piece weighs 8.4 grams. It acid tests to be 18K gold.
