Art Deco 14K Gold Egyptian Revival Bracelet with Turquoise Cabochons

$5,500.00

This 14k gold and turquoise Art Deco bracelet is circa the Egyptian Revival era of the 1920’s. It consists of alternating papyrus and snake motifs with vibrant turquoise cabochons. The cabochons are bezel set and framed by two cobras that come together in a symmetrical repeating image. This link alternates with a detailed papyrus link, an important Egyptian symbol representing life and eternity. The turquoise is a natural Persian turquoise, with a deep beautiful color and variations within the stones; a matrix can be found within some of them. They are striking against the warm tones and lovely patina of the 14k gold. The bracelet has fine details and workmanship. It culminates in a seamless integrated clasp that contains the face of a pharaoh.

During the early 19th century, the discoveries of ancient archaeological finds influenced and introduced what is referred to as "Egyptian Revival Jewelry." The first Egyptian Revival period began around the 1800’s, inspired by the unearthing of ancient Egyptian ruins during that time. Images such as the scarab beetle, sphinxes, pharaohs, and hieroglyphics became popular motifs in fashion. In the 1890’s, there was another unearthing of treasures in the Suez Canal, making the trend popular once again. The Egyptian Revival style flourished again in the 1920's and coincided with the discovery of King Tutankhamen's tomb.

The bracelet is 3/4” wide and fits up to a 7” wrist. It weighs 17.9 grams. It contains six natural Persian turquoise cabochons that measure 8.3 x 6.3 mm each. Unmarked; acid tests as 14k gold.
