This 22k gold ring has a simple design that highlights the beauty of its blue-green tourmaline cabochon. A long piece of thick gold wire was rolled and then hand-hammered into shape, and bypasses itself in the center, where the gemstone is laid across it; the spiral design lends itself to thinking about the ring’s construction, and the high karat gold feels as though it were still malleable. The tourmaline cabochon is bezel set, and gold is visible through the stone, giving it a gorgeous luminosity. Blue-green tourmaline is a highly desirable color of tourmaline, and this ring exhibits its beauty impeccably. A heavier piece, the ring has luxurious heft to it, and the 22k gold feels wonderful on the hand.
The blue-green tourmaline measures 10.05 mm x 7.3 mm, for a TCW of 3 carats. The ring band measures 1/4”, except where it bypasses, which measures 3/8”. It weighs 14.9 grams.
Marked with the maker’s mark “Dimitri”. Acid tests to be at least 22 karat. Circa 2000.
