This antique mixed metal soap box is made of copper and silver by Gorham Manufacturing Co. around 1880. It has a beautiful original patina with a deep rust color that comes from old age.
On the top lid is an intricate silver decoration of a woman in a garden picking fruit from a tree. There is also a long-beaked bird on the top right swooping down to balance the composition.
This soap box is in great condition with a minor dent on the back and the lid fits snugly. It measures 3 3/4" x 3" x 1 1/2". The back has the engraving: "R.R. Porter" and "Oct. 10. 1885". The inside rim has the hallmarks for Gorham Manufacturing Co. as well the letter "P", indicating it was made in 1883.
