18K Gold Vintage Playing Card Heart Suit Pendant Charm

$725.00
Originally part of a set of cufflinks, this 18k gold heart-shaped pendant has been masterfully transformed into a lucky charm. Our jeweler added a bail and jump ring, and preserved the pendant’s pristine high-polish so that the piece seems to have been a pendant all along. Circa the 1950’s, this mid-century piece was hand-made—the jeweler’s saw marks in the gold are visible when looked at under a loop. The pendant has a depth that gives it a nice weight and makes it a substantial charm, great alone or stacked on a chain.

Playing cards have been around since the 9th century Tang Dynasty; the earliest version of the 52 card deck we use today originated from tarot cards that were used in Italy in the 15th century. The suits evolved over the centuries. The diamonds, hearts, clubs, and spades were part of the French standard deck of the 18th century. Decks often reflected the culture of the era—even real life kings were found on the court cards during their reign.

We have one pendant from each suit available in our shop, and the pendents look adorable when worn together. Or choose the suit that is luckiest for you. Alone or apart, the card suits represent chance, gamble, luck, and even love.

The heart pendant measures 1/2” x 5/8” (with an additional 6 mm round bail). It weighs 4 grams. This piece was found on a recent trip to Madrid, and was most likely made in Spain.
