Designed by Louis Cartier in 1924, the Trinity Ring has become an iconic design. The bands represent love, friendship, and fidelity, and the three intertwine gracefully to symbolize life’s most meaningful relationships. Overlapping in a knot reminiscent of the eternity sign, the bands can also represent the interconnectedness of the past, present, and future. The bands are a tri-color of white, yellow, and rose gold, each with a lovely patina. The bands slide onto the finger by rolling over each other, and part of the ring’s charm is that it makes a great “fidget ring” because the bands can be pushed back and forth.
The Trinity Ring was originally designed for French poet and playwright Jean Cocteau. Hollywood icons like Grace Kelly and Gary Cooper were also known to wear the ring, and over the past century, the design has become an emblem of timelessness. Slight variations have been adapted into the design over the decades to match evolving jewelry trends.
The interior of the ring is marked 850, (size) 49, and with the serial number Z02774A. The exterior of the rose gold band is engraved with “les must de Cartier”. The bands are each 3.5 mm thick. The ring weighs 7 grams.
The ring comes with the original certification of authenticity that shows that the ring was made in 1998. It is rare for a vintage piece to have its original certification paperwork!
