This 18k gold necklace features five Dutch Rose Cut cognac diamonds that dangle gracefully from the chain as if they were floating. The diamonds have tiny holes drilled in their corners, allowing them to hang without a mount. To drill a diamond is a labor intensive process that requires many stops and starts to allow the diamond to rest between drilling as to not break the stone. Once drilled, the diamond—an extremely hard stone—is very secure. A platinum bail was selected to connect the diamond to the chain so that the color of the bail would flow into the stone. The end result is diamonds that appear to float on the chain like dew drops.
Cognac diamonds come in a variety of shades that range from champagne to cognac. The same color as our favorite nightcap, the cognac colored diamond has beautiful warm hues. The translucent diamonds reveal triangular facets within, and the Dutch Rose Cut can be worn with either side of the stone facing up.
The chain is 17 3/4” long. It is marked with “Italy” and “18K”. The necklace weighs 2.6 grams. The five natural Dutch Rose Cut diamonds range in size: three are 4.8 mm and two are 3.85 mm. They are VS2- SL 2 in clarity with a slight cognac color. Combined, the diamonds weigh 1.25 carats.
