14K Gold Smoky Quartz Intaglio Signet Ring

This is a stunning 14 karat gold smoky quartz carved intaglio ring from our Signature Collection. The smoky quartz intaglio dates to the 1870’s and has been set in a costume 14k yellow gold basket. The stone has been cut into a truncated rectangle that has been faceted from behind. The top flat plane holds the hand carved intaglio.

The carved intaglio reads “Adsit Deus” or “God is with me” or “God’s Country”.  It is the Balfour Family Crest, a Scottish Clan. A dexter hand and arm erect is holding in bent arm a branch of a laurel. In a shield is an “X”, as well as a chevron with an ermine head inside. The imagery provides a feeling of solidarity, family, and strength that feels timeless.

This smoky quartz has a nice brown glow and the basket has a bold architectural design. The smoky quartz measures 18 mm by 24.75 mm by 9.75 mm deep, a total of 29 carats. The ring weighs 12 grams. There is the tiniest of a knick in the stone but otherwise the ring is in excellent condition. Size 7 1/2.
