14K Micro Mosaic Bird Ring

$725.00

This is a beautiful 14k gold ring that is part of our Signature Collection. There is a 14k split shank that has been attached to a Victorian era micro mosaic bird set in a tablet of onyx and surrounded by a hand engraved 14k gold border. The onyx tablet measures 13mm by 15mm and the ring is a size 5 1/2.

The bird is made using a painstaking technique that involves creating an image out of small pieces of opaque enamel glass called tesserae. The tiny mosaics were first developed in the second half of the 18th century by the Vatican Mosaic Workshop. By the 19th century, numerous independent studios devoted to the production of these small keepsakes were established to meet travelers’ demands for souvenirs.

The split shank ring was custom made for the gold framed micro mosaic. There is a collection of these rings with various subject matter available on Kirsten's Corner.
