This 14k gold Victorian square fob locket is hand engraved with a shield surrounded by a vine of flowers and leaves. The shield has the initials S.S. with a P laid across it in a unique shape. The locket has two tones of gold—a rosy hue as the base while the flowers and leaves have a yellow hue that appears almost green against the rose gold and brings the plantlike details to life. The locket is pitched on a diagonal, giving the piece a dynamic shape, with two batons along the top that make a trefoil when they cross. The locket opens up to reveal a lovely engine turn pattern engraved into the gold.
The locket is marked on the bail as 14k. It measures 7/8” x 7/8” with an additional 4.4 x 6.9 mm bail. It weighs 4.25 grams. Due to its age, there are some dents on the back of the locket.
Circa 1890’s.
