14K Gold Victorian Fancy Link Long Chain with Drop and Enameled Tassel

This 14k gold Victorian chain has a very interesting handmade link compromised of four links connected to make a round. The links alternate in direction as they intersect, creating a chain that is woven in appearance. The chain has fluted caps on each end—a necessary element of the construction of the round links that also adds beauty to the design. The chain comes to a Y shape at the bottom, and a singular section of chain drops down, ending in a final fluted clasp. From there, the chain connects to a spring ring and a removable tassel. The tassel has black enamel and incredible bright cut work in a design that feels Moorish. A series of tiny wheat chains dangle from the tassel, each with a small gold ball at the end. Circa 1890, the chain has a patina that adds to the antique quality of the piece.

The chain has a length of 28”, not including the section that drops down. The section that drops down is 2.5” to the bottom of the spring ring and 4” to the bottom of the tassel. The piece weighs 41.24 grams. The chain is unmarked but acid tests as 14k. The lobster clasp is a replacement and is marked as 14k.
