During the Victorian era, cherubs were a popular motif and this winged cherubs—perhaps cupid—sits with his head resting in his arms, a pose seen repeated in angel imagery from this time. The enamel portrait is flush with the medallion, beautifully painted with exquisite line detail. The gold medallion is bezel set into the ring, with a bright cut hand engraved zig-zag pattern around the bezel. The ring has a very pretty carriage with scallops around the underside of the ring.
The ring weighs 5.7 grams. The face of the ring measures 3/4” and the ring carriage sits 1/4” high. The ring is unmarked but acid tests as 14k gold. Circa 1880-1890.
Ring size 6. Resizable.
