Marked on its interior with the sweet inscription of “Charles to Avis”, this Edwardian ring is a variation of the Toi et Moi diamond ring—a traditional engagement ring of the time. The bypass is centered around a constellation of two Old European cut diamonds, flanked by two cushion cut diamonds. Along the band are six smaller Old Mine cut diamonds to complete the shape. The diamonds are set in a beautiful platinum top, while the rest of the band is 14k gold. There is a lovely flourish in the band on each side of the diamonds to offset the design and hold together the structure of the ring. The two different cuts of diamonds placed side by side adds interesting texture, and emphasizes the unique beauty of each diamond, making this an elegant, magical piece.
The diamonds in this ring are very bright and lively, with a lot of sparkle. The ring contains approximately 1.5 carats of diamond. The round Old European cut diamonds measure 4.4mm; the elongated cushion cut diamonds measure 4 x 3.74mm; and the small Old Mine cut diamonds measure approximately 2mm. They range in color from G-H and range in clarity from VSII-SLII. The ring weighs 2.97 grams.
The interior of the band is marked “Charles to Avis” on one side and “Oct. 30 ’07” on the other side. The ring was recently re-tipped, so all of the beautiful antique diamonds are secure in their mounts and ready for another life. The ring is a size 5, and could be sized up one or two sizes.
