Sourced on a trip to London, this delicate and charming Essex crystal pendant features a carved rock crystal with the image of a chimney sweep holding a ladder and dressed in tails and top hat. The chimney sweep is known to be a symbol of good luck, as the chimney sweep is able to sweep away misfortune and the clear the way for luck. Our favorite chimney sweep is from Mary Poppins, and this one reminds us of the infamous scene of dancing on the rooftops. The pendant has very fine details—it has a Reverse Crystal Intaglio, meaning that the intaglio is carved into the back of the stone and can be seen through the front of the crystal. When looked at from the side, you can see the depth of the carving, and the chimney sweep is three-dimensional within the crystal, giving the piece an element of magic. The crystal is backed with a piece of Mother of Pearl that adds an extra shimmer and is traditional to Edwardian Essex crystal jewelry. The stone is held in a 14k gold bezel, with a round bail.
The pendant measures 5/8” across and has a 6 mm bail. It weighs 2.9 grams. Tests as 14k.
