Vintage Alaskan Gold Nugget Bracelet with Lapis Cabochons
This Lapis gold and gold nugget bracelet was made in Alaska around 1960. It is a combination of 10K, 14K, and the nuggets with a purity of about 22K gold. Seven high dome lapis cabochons are bezel set in 10K gold with a surround or halo of gold nuggets. These 22K nuggets add a beautiful texture offsetting the cobalt blue lapis stones. The Lapis cabochons average 18mm x 13mm with the clasp stone having a smaller measurement of 13.5mm x 10mm. The clasp with safety latch is marked 14K and the chain between the stones is also 14K gold.
In the 1950's and 60's it was popular when visiting Alaska to bring back gold or gold rush themed items. This bracelet made by a local jeweler "LJH" is known for these fabulous nugget encrusted jewels. The bold blue of the lapis and high profile make for a dynamic piece. The bracelet is 6 1/2" long and 7/8" wide with the depth of the cabochons being about 3/8". The piece which has a great deal of weight in stones is 36 grams. Because of the deep depth of the stones besides the bezel setting jewelers glue hold in the stones from the back. This insures these lovely blue stone will stay in place.
