This lovely vintage dolphin ring is made of 14 karat yellow gold, with enamel accents and sapphire gemstones. The sapphires are a soft deep blue and measuring approximately 1.5mm they make the eyes of this stylized fish, or dolphin. The sea creature swirls around the ring finger and connects back at its tail. Its quite a pleasant design with a lot of character. The pectoral fins on the fish look almost like wings, and there is something magical about this creature. The scales of the fish are nicely textured on the gold and a black enamel trace can be seen where the fish features were once more prominent. This vintage ring is in great condition for its age. It is reminiscent of the dolphin Victorian rings, when these mammals were once unknown mysterious creatures of the sea that came to symbolize love and devotion. The dolphin is approximately 3/4 of an inch in size. It is a ring size of 6.25 and because of the design of the ring can fit a larger finger as I can where it on my size 7 1/4 finger. It can be resized a little without affecting the fish scale texture that wraps around the band almost continuously. The ring weighs approximately 7.6 grams and it is marked on the interior of the band with 14KT gold.
A beautiful ring full of character, perfect for a Pisces or a vintage collector. It also makes a good unisex piece. We are unable to date this ring as it is stylistically very similar to the sea creature rings of the 1890's, but hallmarks are not legible. It is possibly a later dating ring maybe 1970's but the quality and craftsmanship, as well as detail on this ring make it a truly stand out piece.
