This ornate gilt bronze box is covered in intricate details, divided up into beautiful image panels of floral and foliate motifs. Shaped like a sarcophagus, the narrow rectangular casket is footed, lifting the box slightly above table surface and creating the illusion that the box is hovering. The ends of the box are decorated with the face of a small dog with pointed ears.
The box opens with a flower-shaped push button, and the interior has original red velvet lining that creates a rich texture. The bottom of the box has a gilt wash surface, with slight wear to it, that adds charm and is expected for a piece of this age.
