Double Heart 950 Silver Folk Art Milagro

$350.00

This is a lovely votive, a 950 silver double heart-shaped milagro with dagger, rose and flames originally from Peru. Milagros are small religious charms that are offered to saints who have performed a “miracle” for someone. In the not too distant past, these small charms were typically nailed or pinned to crosses or wooden statues of various saints like the Virgin Mary or Christ, or hung with red ribbons from altars and shrines. They are also carried for protection and good luck, and can be placed in the home to remind us of an event, or wish.

This votive of connected hearts also makes a great piece of folk art to decorate the home. It was made in the turn of the century, before the 1930's when silver was still the material being used to craft the milagro offerings. It has a romantic element to it- perhaps a saint granted the lovers their wish- and it was gifted in memory of the miracle. Typically, the imagery of the sacred heart with flames around it, with a dagger through the center represent compassion for humanity. The silver votive is hand hammered and beautifully hand-made. It measures approximately 4 1/2 inches by 5 inches and at 51 grams is light and easy to hang. While not marked it was purchased in Peru and test to be 950 silver.
