This stunning diamond necklace has the magic of captured raindrops, as two marquise diamonds dangle gracefully from a 14k gold chain. The diamonds were carefully drilled at the apex, then strung with a tiny platinum bail. Without a mount, the diamonds appear to float as they lay directly against the skin. The marquise cut has excellent sparkle and unique shape, giving this necklace a very special beauty.
The holes were drilled into this diamond in a labor intensive process—each diamond took a week to drill through, and required time to cool off so that the heat from drilling didn’t burst the stone. Platinum was chosen for the bail because it’s the strongest metal, and could securely hold the precious diamonds in place.
The larger diamond measures 7.65 x 4.85 x 3.1 mm. The smaller diamond measures 6.7 x 3.7 x 2.5 mm. The diamonds are VS1 in clarity and J-K in color. The combined total weight of the two diamonds is .83 of a carat.
The chain is 14k, Italian made with a lobster clasp. It is 18 1/4” with an option to close at 16”. The necklace weighs 2.2 grams.
