Champlevé Art Nouveau French Enamel Perfume Bottle Pendant
An elegant French Champlevé perfume bottle made in gilt brass with multi color enamel work.
Champlevé gets its name from the French word "levé" or "raised field". The field is the background, which gets colored and filled with enamel. The raised area is in fact metal line work, which we can see creates the patterning on this bottle. The bottle has a lovely Rococco design of swirling lines amongst vibrating colors. It measures approximately 2-1/2 by 1 inches in size and has a lid approximately 1/4 of an inch that opens on a hinge. It is a functioning object which could be worn around the neck as a pendant, with an essential oil, or perhaps some lavender. The lid is fastened to the bottle with a chain. The chain is gold fill, and measures approximately 3 inches in length. The bottle has superb craftsmanship with 5 colors of enamel. The enamel is in great shape with only one very small area of loss in a red field next to the handle. The metal has a nice patina to it, and has aged nicely with a beautiful warm glow.
We have chains available in our store should you need one. Can be worn as a pendant or carried as a pocket item. Lovely object from the Art Nouveau and Deco era of France! Circa 1910.
