This is a rare Blackamoor sterling silver pendant or brooch. No sterling silver mark, but was acid tested to be sterling. This piece of Victorian Blackamoor jewelry was made as a trophy highlighting the tigers claw, which was probably original and now has a horn version. Blackamoor jewelry usually depicts African males and the allure of the exotic. This pendant/brooch depicts an African face wearing a headdress with an elaborate curled design in the hair. Carved horn made to look like a tigers claw, again a symbol of travel and the exotic. Excellent condition it measures 1 3/8 x 1 x 3/8 inches. This is an extremely rare piece. Circa 1850.
