This is a stunning Art Nouveau sterling silver and Czech art glass necklace. Known as “Dragon’s Breath” these glass stones was first used in jewelry in the early 1900s. Made of glass, it emulates a cross between the Mexican fire opal and jelly opal. Molten metals were added to the glass during the melt to provide the fiery coloration of the glass stones.There are 18 polished 12 mm x 9 mm oval art glass cabochons bezel set in sterling silver that center around a larger polished oval cabochon that measures 1 1/4” by 3/4”. The necklace weighs about 30 grams and is marked “Sterling”.
The Czech glass cabochons are unique in that they are dichroic. This means they have the unique ability to show two different colors when viewed from different angles. It's a dynamic and somewhat magical effect, almost looking like a hologram or the breath of a dragon.
