19.2K Gold Portuguese Garnet Hoop Earrings

$1,450.00

A gorgeous pair of pierced hoop earrings, featuring cabochon garnets colette set into 19.2 karats of yellow gold. The cabochons are arranged in ascending order, with the smallest oval up top. The three garnets are bezel and colette set into the textured gold, and these measure 5.1 x 3.4 mm, 5.5 x 3.6 mm, and 7.3 x 5.4 mm correspondingly. The garnets have a deep wine red color and have open backs letting the light beam through them. The hoops themselves measure approximately 3/4 of an inch by 1/2 an inch at their widest point, and weigh a total of 11 grams. They have been remarkably well hand-constructed with attention to detail. The earrings open at the front where the tiny gold marks are. They glide very easily and sit nicely on the ear. They look fantastic when worn!

The earrings are marked with 800- the Portuguese gold mark for 19.2 karats of gold. The hallmark on the piece is worn, so date of earrings cannot be determined. They were most likely made in the 1930s, although they appear older. The Portuguese were experts on using old techniques and refined craftsmanship to make some of the exquisite and highest quality gold works. Portuguese were known for their ability to replicate ancient methods for creating wonderful jewelry pieces. These earrings will not disappoint!
