Antique Paste 14KT Gold Russian Rhombus Earrings

$450.00
A romantic pair of late Georgian- early Victorian, rhombus-shaped paste earrings set into 14KT gold backs. These earrings are a beautiful antique treasure. The style of "diamond rivière" or river of light was very popular during the Georgian period and well into the Victorian. All that glittered was in fashion; pastes became the most popular and affordable alternative to diamonds. Pastes are an imitation diamond, but in fact, are high quality, multi faceted carved crystals. All stones are originals and the earrings are in great condition for their age. They date to the 1840's. The ruby colored paste measure 1.5 mm, the same as the surrounding pastes; the largest paste at the center of the rhombus design measures 3mm. The combination of pink-red ruby glass with luminous white glass pastes against a bright yellow is quite elegant. The antique hoop-backs of these earrings latch on securely at the top of the rhombus; there is a Russian gold mark on each of the earrings. The earrings measure approximately 1/2 an inch. Perfect for any special evening dress. Acid test to be 14K.
