Antique French Bronze Fleur-de-Lys Wax Seal

An ornate desk-top French wax seal made for the initials J and B at the turn-of-the-century. The letters are nice and crisp and when pressed into wax you can see the flowery script at its best. The symbol on the handle of the bronze seal is a fleur-de-lys, the former royal arms of France. This stylized iris flower has often been associated with quintessentially French decorative elements, saints and royalty. This bronze piece is lovely, with organic architectural ornaments around the base of the symbol. The seal measures 1-3/4 inches by 3-5/8 inches; the seal circle with initials is 7/8 of an inch. This historical piece can still be used today to seal important documents, or correspondence. Circa 1900, this piece has elements of Art Nouveau. It makes a wonderful addition to an antique collection.
