The portrait of a horse featured on this charm is carved into the Essex crystal. The bas-relief carving into the crystal gives it its actual three-dimensional properties within the form. The portrait is beautifully crafted, with a Mother of Pearl backdrop. When looked at through a loop, the intricate detail of the portrait is evident. The horse’s face is expressive, with a glint in its eye, and motion in its posture. The charm is set in 9k gold, and hangs from a beautiful 14k gold bail.
Made in London, the charm was once part of a pair of vintage cufflinks, circa 1985, but designed to look Edwardian. We separated the cufflinks, carefully keeping the brushed gold consistent and adding a bail so that each link could be worn as a lovely charm. There are several other charms from this set available on our website, each with a different horse portrait.
Each charm is marked on the back as 9k gold. Because the charms were originally part of a pair, only one of the sibling links is marked with the date and the maker’s mark “PL”. This particular charm, which features a horse in motion with orange reins facing east, includes the maker and date marks.
The charm weighs 2.25 grams. It is 1/2” across, not including the bail. The bail is 5.4mm.
This charm would look great alone, or stacked with other charms. It would even make a beautiful charm bracelet paired with the other horse portrait cufflink charms from this set. The adjustable 14k gold chain shown in the picture is not included, but is available on our website.
