Carefully fashioned from gold wire, this vintage French necklace is a sophisticated variation of the paperclip chain. The wires in each link are woven and swiveled together—reminiscent of loose tresses of hair—into elongated links that are then slightly twisted to give them their unique shapes. The tri-color pattern is delicately executed; though there are three colors, their differences are subtle, almost imperceptible at first glance but then drawing the eye in for a closer look. The twisted links, combined with the three shades of gold, create an airy, ephemeral quality for a soft, feminine look.
The last link contains the French hallmark for 18k gold. The necklace is 18 1/4” long and weighs 14 grams. It is held together by a spring ring clasp.
This chain looks great alone, or can be stacked with other necklaces to add texture to your neck mess.
Circa 1970s or 1980s.
