This is a stunning 18 karat gold Italian leafy-vine brooch with sapphires. This brooch has amazing design qualities that resemble a modernist sculptural abstraction of a leafy vine with sparkling blue sapphire flowers. The design of the vine has a nice organic rhythm, textures, and a color palette that feels both contemporary and vintage.
Each leaf is a teardrop shape with an inlaid white gold polka-dot pattern. The white gold resembles a cross-hatch pencil stroke texture. This is a remarkable design detail. Additionally, there are 4 prong-set sapphires measuring 2.5 mm each offering a nice pop of color. This piece weighs 8.9 grams and measures 3 3/4" by 2 3/4". Circa 1960.
