15K Gold and Amethyst Victorian Earrings
This elegant pair of 15 karat yellow gold and amethyst earrings date to the Victorian era, when the meaning behind jewelry became very important and each gemstone was symbolic. An amethyst was a favorite gemstone used to decorate jewelry as it was a signifier of devotion. Each earring takes on a tear drop form, measuring approximately 1-1/4 inches. The pear cut amethyst gemstone measures 12 x 20 x 7mm and has a lovely deep violet color. It is approximately 8 carats. It is faceted on the edges and has a smooth top. The amethysts are vibrant and bold , set into complimentary yellow gold, with open backs to let light in. The gold features a delicate hand- twisted gold wire that decorates the edge. The earrings weigh 8.5 grams. The exude elegance and romance, and are easy to wear everyday. While not marked they acid test to be 15k gold. Circa 1880.
