This lovely 14 karat rose gold pendant locket from the Aesthetic Movement is decorated with a butterfly and a bird, surrounded by stars and a natural setting. The bright cut detailing work and the animated renderings of the animals make the locket stand out. The locket is only decorated on one side, with no marks elsewhere, and minor wear, and tiny dent to the back, as is expected for its age. It remains unmarked but has been acid tested to 14 karats of gold. The locket open and closes perfectly, and snaps shut securely. In the inside we find the original glass piece on one side, and on the other, a replacement piece has been inserted. This locket is a real beauty and a fine example from the Aesthetic Movement, a period of art that celebrated pure beauty and fanciful, natural motifs. The bright-cut work on the surface of the pendant is reminiscent of Japanese art, inspired by nature and ornamentation.
The pendant is ready to hand with a bale. The locket weighs 12.6 grams and is approximately 1 inch by 1/4 of an inch deep. The chain depicted here is available separately through Kirsten's Corner.
