This is a Victorian era 14k gold racing horse brooch. There is amazing detail to this brooch that creates an emotional effect. The horses eyes are wide, with neck stretched out running at full speed, and ears back listening to the rider. Any horse lover will know this is a great rendering of a horse running as fast as it can!
The brooch is a hollow design, making it lightweight and easy to wear throughout the day. It weighs 11.8 grams and measures 23/4” by 1 1/8” (at widest point). The back is stamped “14” and “S”. Though we are not able to identify the maker, this piece dates to the 1890s.
This racing horse brooch could also be worn as a pedant (please see pictures). A true gem, it would make a wonderful gift or addition to your jewelry collection.
